When I first created Beyond The Podium, I had one goal: to make space for the stories we don’t always hear—stories of Black student leaders who lead not just with titles, but with heart, purpose, and resilience. I wanted to show that leadership doesn’t always look like holding a microphone or sitting on a panel. Sometimes, it’s quiet consistency, hard work behind the scenes, or simply being present for others.

Throughout this journey, I’ve had the privilege of spotlighting incredible students across Mississippi who are doing meaningful work on their campuses. Every story reminded me that leadership is personal. It’s shaped by where we come from, what we’ve been through, and who we hope to become.

This blog has also been personal for me. It challenged me to reflect on my own leadership, to step outside of my comfort zone, and to remember that our voices matter, especially when we use them to uplift others. Ending this series with an interview of myself, led by the very first student I interviewed, wasn’t just a cute full-circle moment. It was a reminder that our leadership journeys are constantly evolving ... and that we’re never alone in them.

To every student who read, shared, or saw themselves in these posts: thank you. You are beyond the podium. You are the movement. You are the future.

Stay inspired, stay grounded, and keep leading.
