Meet Meghan Curry, a senior at the University of Mississippi majoring in Public Health and Health Sciences on the pre-law track. Originally from Indianola, Mississippi, Meghan is known for her commitment to leadership, advocacy, and service on campus.
Meghan is involved in several student organizations, including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the universityโs Columns Society. Her most prominent role is serving as president of the campus NAACP chapter, a position she has held for three years. Under her leadership, the chapter has been revitalized and made more active, even in the face of difficult campus conversations and pushback from peers.
As a student leader at a predominantly white institution, Meghan has faced challenges around student engagement and opposition to the organizationโs advocacy efforts. Still, she remains focused on supporting underrepresented voices and staying true to the mission of the organizations she serves.
Her time in leadership has also sparked personal growth, teaching her how to stay organized, communicate across different communities, and carry herself with purpose. She believes her experiences on campus have prepared her well for her future career and goals beyond graduation.
Meghan encourages students interested in leadership to focus on impact rather than recognition. She believes that intention, consistency, and a clear sense of purpose are what truly matter. Her hope is to leave behind a legacy of resilience, passion, and inspiration for the next generation of Black student leaders.
